Volunteering Opportunities

In light of recent lessons on the topic of being the hands and feet of Christ in the world, here is a list of different organizations in the Pittsburgh area and also around are country that are involved in some pretty important issues!  You are encouraged to look through them and find ways you can use your gifts and talents to reach out to those in need and spread the love of Christ in any way possible!!

Keep checking back for dates and times when we will go out as a group to volunteer at some of the places listed below!

Human Trafficking / Slavery:  There are roughly 27 million people currently in slavery around the world.  The organizations listed below are in need of people to do simple office tasks to help get the word out, but are also in great need of people to hold events or just to tell their friends about Human Trafficking to raise awareness for these innocent people!

Abortion:  The Crisis Pregnancy Center of the South Hills is in need of people who will volunteer to build Baby Bundles for expectant mothers, babysit for single mothers, or just to help out in their many activities such as the March for Life in May!  PA Pro Life and Allegheny County Pro Life are also in need of volunteers.  Call them and see how you can help save lives!!

Broken Homes:   You can help out the hundreds of thousands of kids that come from broken homes in the Pittsburgh area by being an after school tutor, working at summer camps such as Pine Valley or volunteering for various service projects aimed to help families in need!  You might also consider being a big brother or big sister for a child who is need of an older / wiser mentor!

Elderly / Nursing homes:  There are hundreds of elderly people who would love nothing more than for you to come sit with them and talk for a while.  You could also sing songs, juggle, do magic tricks, fix their hair, paint their nails or play a board game.  Just a couple hours a week could make a huge difference in both their lives and yours!  Any of the nursing homes listed below are more than happy to accommodate visitors and volunteers!

Hunger:   There are over 1 Billion people in the world who don't have enough to eat.  You can help on a local scale by volunteering at the food bank in Pittsburgh or by donating and volunteering with more global organizations such as World Hunger Relief.

Sickness: Local Hospitals are always looking for volunteers to do menial tasks like changing bed sheets and delivering food.  You will also get the chance though to minister to those who are sick or dying.  If you love children try volunteering down at Children's Hospital.  Just a few hours a week can make a huge difference!

Homeless:  There are hundreds of homeless on the streets of Pittsburgh who would love not to just get a free sandwich from you, but would probably love to sit and talk for a while!  These are also some great organizations who need volunteers to cook meals, hold clothing drives or just to show up and help at their homeless shelters:
