The RLC Nursery School started in 1973-1974 with only a morning
four-year old class. There are now 2 four-year old classes and 2 three year old classes.
Marcia Pavesi is the director and teaches the four-year olds. Her assistant is
Mrs. Beth Blanc. Mrs. Carolyn Carr and Mrs. Blanc teach the three-year olds.
The three-year olds meet Tuesday and Thursdays. Classes do
not exceed 10 in each class. The cost is $80.00 per month for the year 2007-08.
The four-year olds meet Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays.
Classes do not exceed 15 in each class. The cost is $95.00 for the year 2007-08.
School begins after Labor Day and runs through the last full week of
May before Memorial Day. Basically, the same schedule is followed as the Bethel
Park School District.
Our Nursery School is a Christian nursery school. We learn
that God loves us and His Son Jesus is our Savior. Through kind discipline, your
child will learn to interact with his/her teachers and the other children in the
classroom. The structured environment allows the children time for free play,
time with God, story time, time for music, snacks, indoor and/or outdoor play,
unit themes, and arts and crafts.

Ruthfred has a very strict and yet pleasant two year confirmation
program. The children, after their baptism, are to confirm their baptismal promises and,
in a public way, to affirm their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
So that confirmation is not just a formality and a "joining the
church," we endeavor to lead them to a deep relationship with Christ. Incorporated
into the program is Bible history, liturgy, music, hymn memorization, Luther's
Catechism and much memory work from that and from the Bible.
A public examination is held the Sunday before confirmation.
Confirmation day is always on Pentecost. After thorough training, the confirmed class is
ready to receive it's first Holy Communion.
We place much emphasis on what it means to be a Christian, before one
takes his or her confirmation vows.
For more information, please contact Pastor James D. Molstre at the church office.
Our church offers a well-rounded supply of various media resources.
Over 2,600 books line our shelves ranging from commentaries and Bible study resource
material, biographies, Biblical novels, family life, life stories of famous and infamous
Christian people to Bible stories for children and living skills from a Christian
perspective. Cassette and video tapes on a variety of subjects are also available, along
with cassette tapes of all church services.
The adult library is located outside the Chapel doors. The children's
library is located in room #A4 on the first level of the new addition. The libraries are
open whenever the church is open. Materials may be checked out for two weeks. Occasionally
the library is staffed but you may always leave a request for a particular tape or book.
The RLCW Board are the women who are elected to lead the church
women. The board includes the president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, education
leader, stewardship leader, program chairman, the six Circle presidents, and a
representative from Craft & Sew, kitchen, nursery, library, newsletter, and the
historian. The board meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Conference
Room. Any church member may attend the board meetings.
The RLCW Board is responsible for leading the activities of
the women and regularly supporting missions, missionaries, and local groups
doing Christian outreach. We aid these groups with money or by collecting items
needed by various groups. We are always in need of helpers to organize projects.
Information concerning the women's activities may be found in the church
bulletin and in the Herald.
The Herald is the official newsletter of Ruthfred
Lutheran Church. Published about every six weeks it is mailed to each family unit in the
congregation. It includes news, announcements, educational and informative articles, editorials,
greetings from the pastors, condensed minutes of several board meetings of
interest to the congregation, sometimes a children's page, and announcements from the
church library.
The Herald information is contributed by individuals
and representatives of the many
organizations within the church and attempts to be of interest to all members of
the congregation.
The Herald is one of the many pluses you receive as a member of
Ruthfred Lutheran Church.
As an evangelical outreach to the community and as an additional educational opportunity for our congregation, VBS is held each summer, in June. Teachers and helpers are always needed as we usually have several hundred students enrolled in some 25-30 classes for 4 year olds through 8th grade.
See pictures from VBS 2003.

Started by Elaine Schrey many years ago, the Samaritan Ministry is a volunteer group that mostly assist our elderly church members with transportation to & from appointments with a doctor or hospital. There are a few other services available.

The Senior Choir is a warm, friendly group of believers who
enjoy serving the Lord by singing. Although a few of our members have had professional
training, most are amateur singers who eagerly contribute their best. The only
requirements for joining the choir are an ability to sing on-pitch and a willingness to
work.
With an active season running from September through June, the Senior
Choir sings at the 11:00 a.m. service, except for the third Sunday of every month when
they sing at the 8:30 a.m. service. When possible, anthems are selected to correspond with
scripture readings for each Sunday to reemphasize Biblical themes.
In addition to Sunday anthems, larger musical works are usually
presented with orchestral accompaniment during Lent and Advent. Good music, Christian
fellowship and an occasional dinner are all part of the Senior Choir. New voices are
welcomed. Choir practice is Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m.
More Information, please see Bob Vogel or contact the church office.
The Bell Choir is available to anyone with the ability to read music and the desire to work with the bells. Practice is on Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m. and regular attendance at rehearsals is encouraged. A set of English hand bells was given to the church in 1984 and they are a beautiful addition to worship.
Through our youth choirs, our young people realize a special opportunity to praise God through music.
If you have willing hands and a free day (or half day) on the 1st
and 3rd Tuesdays of each month, come to Craft & Sew from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in
the church basement. A lunch is served.
Many useful items are made such as Adult bibs, walker & wheelchair
bags, lap robes and other useful items that are sent to Concordia Home in Cabot and The
Baptist Home in Castle Shannon. If you are a "craft lady," you can make tray
favors, of all shapes and varieties to brighten the daily or holiday mealtime for over 200
residents. From June through August, we take a summer break and start back up in
September. All it takes is a willing spirit and a desire for fellowship while doing the
work of the Lord.
Join us this fall as we grow with God!
How?
Come to KidsTime, where we will grow as fruit of the spirit.
What is KidsTime?
KidsTime is a weekly Christian program devoted to children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Children learn God's word through interactive lessons, crafts, games, and activities. Kids will discover how the fruit of god's Spirit grows in their lives.
When is KidsTime?
Wednesday nights 6:45 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Opening night is Wednesday, September 12, 2007
Why KidsTime?
As they explore the expressions of the fruit of God's Holy Spirit in their lives, they'll learn to cultivate attitudes that will lead them to know God better and become the fruitful peoples He designed them to be.
Questions? Call Ruthfred Lutheran Church at (412) 835-7140. All messages will be forwarded to Erin McMinn, KidsTime Coordinator.
